The Garbage waste of the metropolitan city of Bombay ( Mobaim / Mumbai ) is being dumped at Uttan, which is a relatively less developed as compared to the city. The East Indians living there along with other communities like the peace and quiet of its surroundings.
This was taken away when the Government decided to use Dharavi as a dumping ground. This created a lot of health hazards to the local villagers. They wrote letters to various government agencies and were invariably assured that their concerns will be taken care of. However, nothing was done to resolve their issues. They were left with no choice but come on the streets to protest.

However, the police lathi (baton) charged this peaceful protest, injuring many peaceful East Indian Villagers. None of the police were booked for this unprovoked assault on peaceful protestors

Several years have passed with health of the villagers deteriorating and the Government turning a blind eye to their suffering. It is 15+ years and there seems to be no end in sight. The Garbage dump “catches fire” very often further polluting the environment
