Uttan – Dongri – Gorai – Culvem – Manori belt is the only area near Bombay that still have East Indian Villages and the natives prefer to live in that peaceful environment and often reject “development” as the Government does not include the villagers when doing the planning. These villagers have seen what has happened to the East Indian villages in Bombay. As a matter of fact the Government has till date not demarcated the existing villages in metropolitan Bombay and very often try to term these as illegal slums.

So when the Government under the influence of Essel Group wanted to make Gorai a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) it was objected to by the villagers from across Uttan to Manori.
