The East Indian feast of AAGERA is celebrated with great festivities. East Indian ladies dress up with their best lugras, the men with their suits and the children as well.
This is akin to Thanksgiving Day, that one gives thanks to what has been given to them.
On AAGERA the first crop is blessed and distributed. Few grains of these are put in the rice “khan” to bless the whole rice. Small household put the few grains in their rice “barni” or rice jar or where-ever the store their rice. We have to keep in mind that in the old days (50-100 years) ago, it was not easy to get rice from a local store, hence imperative that rice be stored appropriately.
